Region boosts £51m Sport Relief fund

Sainsbury’s staff at Dronfield took part in charity hoolahoop dances and Bethany Erroch and friends, from Bolsover Church of England School, in Bolsover, held a cake sale.

Children took part in a range of sporting activities including dance, balanceabilty bikes, athletics and multiskills at Springwell Community School as well as gymnastics at Brimington Junior School.

Youngsters were also sponsored by parents, family and friends to run the Brimington Manor Sport Relief Mile 2014 organised by Brimington Manor Infant School.

Three sixth-form students Corey Brown, Elliot Brocklesby and Becky Harris from Alfreton Park Community Special School took part in the Shipley Park Sport Relief.

They completed a three-mile race alongside companion runners.

Chesterfield-based Auto Windscreens also got the pounds piling in with 75 people at their contact centre volunteering to give up Friday night to take donation calls for Sport Relief 2014.

Staff and their friends and family, many wearing sporty fancy dress, helped take calls from 7pm to midnight from members of the public wanting to pledge funds for the cause.

The call centre team also held a Sport Relief pentathlon championship throughout the week.

This saw 16 in-house teams go head-to-head in a series of office-related challenges including paper plane javelin, plastic dart gun shooting, discus hoopla, waste paper archery and a chair marathon.

On Friday they were even cheered on by Chesterfield Football Club’s mascot Chester the Field Mouse.

Sport Relief 2014, which was celebrated on Friday, raised over £51million for poor and disadvantaged people around the UK and the world.
