Residents urged to vote in East Mids Euro election

Voters are urged to get to the polling booths to select their East Midlands’ candidates for the European Parliament.

The Euro election, today, Thursday, May 22, includes 26 MEP candidates from the Conservative, Liberal Democrat, Labour, Ukip, Green and English Democrat parties. Residents vote for one party and each has a lead candidate followed by members who can contest subsequent seats after a lead candidate has been selected.

East Midlands’ lead candidates include MEP Emma McClarkin, Conservative, Bill Newton-Dunn, Lib Dem, MEP Glenis Willmott, Labour, Katharina Boettge, Green, MEP Roger Helmer, Ukip, and Kevin Sills, English Democrats. Conservatives are offering an in-out Euro referendum. The Lib Dems feel the EU will create jobs. Labour believes the EU will support business.

The Greens hope to address climate change. Ukip and the English Democrats want to secure Britain’s withdrawal from the EU.
