Fanboys and Sci-Fi lovers will be able to immerse their inner geek in the weird and the wonderful world of science fiction and comic book fantasy at the historic Devonshire Dome - home to the University of Derby’s Buxton Campus - on Saturday March 5, between 11am and 4pm.

Visitors to UNICON will get the chance to mingle with special guests from the world of TV and film during the day-long extravaganza, while stunning displays will feature everything from Daleks and Dr Who’s TARDIS through to characters from Alien, Predator, Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica - with plenty of photo opportunities.

New Mills businessman Steven Howard is organising the Buxton event, and was behind the inaugural WHY?CON which was held in the Peak District last August.

He said: “We are trying to take the Comic-Con scene to areas that never get a chance to see one - last year saw us take one to Nantwich and another to Bakewell.

“This year we will be returning to those areas, as well as Alton Towers, but I thought ‘let’s go local’ and chose the stunning and prestigious Devonshire Dome.”

Guests will include Norman Lovett from Red Dwarf, cult TV star James Mackenzie from CBBC’s The Raven and Paul Warren fresh from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, alongside others from Harry Potter, Batman, Dr Who and James Bond fame. Talks and signings will take place throughout the day.

Up to 50 trade stalls will be specialising in action figures, comics, artwork, books, Lego, TV memorabilia, collectables and handmade goods.

There will also be competitions for costumers and cosplayers with prizes on offer, while costume groups East Midlands Garrison and Vok’Chi (Mandalorian Merc’s) will be keeping Imperial Order.

General admission prices are £4 for adults, £2 for under-12s and free for under-fives.

For those who cannot wait to get there, an Early Bird Admission is available, priced £5, which will allow access to the venue from 10am on the day.
