The oldest cat in Derbyshire has sadly passed away – at the grand old age of 22.
Veteran moggy Sheba – who would have been 23 in August – died last week in her sleep, after having a couple of strokes.
Despite being 105 in human years long-haired tortoiseshell Sheba had never been to the vet.
Her owner Brenda Newsam, of East Bank, Winster, believed Sheba to be the oldest cat in the county.
The oldest cat in the UK is 25.
Sheba featured in the Mercury in August 2009 as she celebrated her 21st birthday.
Brenda said Sheba had enjoyed lots of little treats from the table and her favourite food was fresh tuna or sometimes red salmon.
Despite being slightly deaf and blind in one eye Sheba had enjoyed a happy life with lots of cuddles from her dedicated owner.
According to national press, the world’s oldest cat was reported to be 39.
Cats live to be about 15 on average which meant Lucy, who lives in South Wales, had more than doubled her life expectancy.
