VIDEO: Dethick, Lea & Holloway Village Carnival

The residents of Dethick, Lea and Holloway enjoyed an afternoon of fun in the sunshine at their annual village carnival.

The event, which took place at Lea Green on Saturday, June 29, played host to sheep racing, beer barrel racing and culminated in a carnival float procession followed by an afternoon of arena events and sideshows.

Celebrating their theme of ‘homemade & homegrown’ highlights of the day included the spectacularly decorated floats, wonderful fancy dress costumes and the delicious sights and smells of homemade cakes in the tea tent.

Carnival Queen Helen Cross, 10, and her attendants looked radiant and the crowd were kept on the edge of their seats during the inter-village ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition’.

The ‘Lea Bridge’ team were victorious with an inspiring display from Rob Atkinson in the wellie wangling event!

On behalf of the carnival committee, Andrea Atkinson said: “A big thank you to the carnival committee for a wonderful event and to all the local residents for a great turn out. All proceeds are ploughed back into the community to be shared amongst the various groups in the village.”
