VIDEO: Flying Scotsman steams back into Doncaster

Legendary locomotive The Flying Scotsman has steamed back into its Doncaster birthplace this morning.

Scores of rail enthusiasts crowded the platforms to catch a brief glimpse of the world’s most famous loco as she slowly steamed her way through town en route to London for her official return to the rails tomorrow.
And although the loco didn’t stop on her visit shortly before 11am, she did let out clouds of steam and sounded her whistle as passengers, rail workers and commuters looked on in awe as the steam giant rolled through the town where she was built in 1923. A helicopter even buzzed overhead to see the legendary feat of British engineering in all her glory.
The loco is back in action after a decade long overhaul costing £4.2 million.
Her official unveiling will be tomorrow when she makes a journey from London King’s Cross to York’s National Railway Museum and is due to arrive back in Doncaster shortly before noon.
Rail buff Dennis Cook said: “It was wonderful to see her back in Doncaster again. She is a true icon of the railways and I will be coming back tomorrow.”
