VIDEO: Matlock comes alive for carnival

A thunderous start to the weekend led to a glorious end for Matlock Carnival.

The bright sunshine of Sunday melted away memories of the previous day’s lightening storms, as the community gathered in Hall Leys Park to make the most of the summer.

The carnival was the jewel in the crown of Matlock Festival, which took place in venues across the town, starting with Music on the Meadows at Matlock Rugby Club.

Steven Murphy, promoter of Matlock Festival, said: “This year’s festival has been a huge success and it’s been great to be part of it.

“Starting with Music On The Meadows and finishing with the Carnival Weekend, all the events have been well attended.

“My highlight of the week has to be Faux Fest, a huge thanks goes to all who bought tickets and to the bands for what turned out to be an amazing night at The Loft.”

Organiser Irfan Shabir said: “It’s been great, it seemed like the entire town came out in support of the carnival weekend, especially on Sunday when the weather turned out for us.

“I’d like to thank all those involved in helping us produce an amazing event, without the likes of Lisa McTighe, Peter Morley, Steven Murphy, Dan Hopkinson, Wendy Spencer, Mark Haworth, Sean Buff and Athony Buff all volunteering to help, we just wouldn’t manage to hold the event. A massive thanks goes to all the sponsors and to the Matlock Mercury for supporting us from the very start, showing just what the local newspaper can do to help local events and businesses. Bring on Matlock Festival 2015.”

Stephen added that he was already planning next year’s festival, and anyone that wanted to get involved should contact them via the ‘Matlock Festival and Carnival’ page on Facebook, or by visiting
