When a Lexus car ploughed into Kick Off Sport, in Firs Parade, Matlock, on Monday, December 22, the store was completely destroyed and the people inside lucky to escape with their lives.

Now owner Rob Lowe has reopened the store, but says he has lost money over the busy Christmas period as a consequence.

“Christmas is usually a busy time of year,” he said.

The store was reopened after Christmas, however the windows have had to be boarded up.

“We’re not busy at the moment,” Rob continued, “perhaps because we don’t really look open.

“We’re mainly just tidying up at the moment.”

Rob has struggled to maintain good contact with his insurance company over the festive period.

“It’s that time of year, there are not many people working and you’re on hold for half an hour sometimes,” he said.

He said the shop was unlikely to be completely restored until the new year.

Rob added that he had lost money as a result of the accident, however said he hoped to get it back on the insurance.

The 83-year-old driver of the car is thought to have put it into the wrong gear before accidentally driving forwards into the shop.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene of the crash, but did not sustain any serious injuries. The police did not open a criminal investigation into the matter.
