VIDEO: Protesters descend on Peak Park offices

Hordes of motorcyclists and 4x4 drivers descended on the Peak District National Park offices this morning (Friday) to protest against plans to ban them from green lanes in the area.

The protesters, who have been at the Bakewell offices since around 8am, are demanding a private meeting with Jim Dixon, chief executive of the authority, and his associates to express their anger at the proposals.

Indications this morning are that the private meeting is likely to go ahead.

Protest organiser Mike Irving, of the Trail Riders Fellowship, said: “We will get our message over to the authority - green lanes are for all. As this is just the thin end of the wedge as soon it will be the mountain bikers and the walkers who will be targeted.

“I hope Mr Dixon and his colleagues do take on board what we say. But if they don’t we will keep fighting.”
