THE bad weather claimed another victim recently as an award winning model boat sank in the high waters of the river Derwent.
The Toyland Express – which scooped second prize in this year’s Matlock Bath Illuminations boat building competition – was docked at the landing area following its victory.
However, with the heavy rainfall that occurred on Monday, September 24, the rising river caused the model train to capsize.
Ian Page, who designed and built the model, said: “I got a phone call at work from one of the boat lads who broke the bad news.
“When I first saw it I thought there was no chance of getting it back, but thanks to the lads getting their aqua gear on and salvaging it I got the Toyland Express back.”
While the carriage was beyond repair, remarkably the train’s structure and electronics were still in working order.
