The Post Office is proposing to reopen Wirksworth Post Office at a new location to create a modern open–plan branch with extended opening hours.

The proposed new location for the branch is the Co-op Garage and Store, in Harrison Drive, which is 450 metres from its previous site in the Market Place.

Simon Drinkwater, Post Office regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Wirksworth and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The new Wirksworth Post Office would have three serving positions. One would be screened and the other two would be modern open–plan counters.

Customers would also benefit from the passport check and send service being added to the wide range of Post Office services on offer.

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 8am to 7pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8am to 6pm Wednesday and Saturday and 10am to 1pm on Sunday. This would offer an extra 21 hours of Post Office service every week.

During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd will welcome feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal.

The consultation will close on October 9 2014. Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost ‘Your Comments’ to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, via the Customer Helpline on 08457 22 33 44 or Textphone 08457 22 33 55.

Customers can also share their views online through a questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 323207.
