A member of the public found the body of a male adult German Shepherd dog on Tuesday (March 15).

The dog was wearing a collar and did not have a microchip.

RSPCA inspector Kate Levesley, who is investigating, said: “This is very sad and was not very pleasant for the member of the public who discovered the body.

“We do not know how the dog died, nor can we speculate, as we do not know if the dog died at the hands of a cruel human being or whether he died naturally and his head was eaten by wildlife - however we cannot rule anything out.

“It is vital that we find out what happened to this poor animal.”

The RSCPA is urging anybody with information about the dog, which was found on Cadley Lane, Swadlincote, to call them on 0300 123 8018.
