The huge show of animal trials, expert riders, classic cars and aerobatics was a huge success, including hundreds of trade stands and rural crafts, and a whole host of family events.

One of England’s most spectacular annual outdoor events, a huge array of England’s heritage of Country Sports and pastimes were on show including armed service displays, horse shoeing, dry-stone walling, ferret racing, archery and dog trials.

And for a touch of quirk, the allcomers dog race was some chaotic fun and the crowd was amazed by the fearless Ukrainian Cossack Stunt Team.

President of Chatsworth Country Fair, newcomer Adam Henson, presenter of the BBC’s Countryfile, declared the show open.

He said: “It’s an absolute delight to be here and an honour.

“My father knew the previous Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. There was that connection to the family so I lived here as a teenager and cut my teeth on farming here.

“The farm staff were lovely and the people of Derbyshire too. I have fond memories of living in Derbyshire. As someone who loves the domain of farming and the countryside it’s a real treat.”

Hundreds of fans queued for a book signing by The Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry and to watch her cookery demonstration.

The 80-year-old said the setting of Chatsworth’s country fair was what made it so special.

She added: “I’m here really to do my cooking the tent, but it’s a wonderful show isn’t it. I’ve been coming a few years, it’s the most beautiful house to begin with, and the grounds... I think people who come here really appreciate the surroundings.

“There’s everything - food, demonstrations, wonderful clothes, if you want to see the dogs... everything’s here! It’s an amazing, show, it’s huge and it shows the countryside to everybody.”
