Watchdog hails health body

A report has hailed Derbyshire’s healthcare staff for having big hearts.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said it received “overwhelmingly positive feedback” from patients about the compassion and empathy of staff at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust following a recent inspection.

However, the watchdog highlighted concerns at a number of hospitals in the area.

The CQC’s report said: “Patients were routinely included in their care plans and decision making was personalised to meet their short and long-term needs.

“Patients and their relatives felt listened to and involved at all levels.

“Staff demonstrated excellent commitment in providing the best care they could.”

Tracy Allen, chief executive of Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: “I am really proud of everyone for this recognition.

“At the heart of providing really good quality services are our staff.

“We have some of the best workers in the NHS and that makes me especially proud of the work we do.”

The CQC told Walton Hospital that it must improve care planning and considering people’s consent.

It also said Bolsover Hospital should improve staffing levels.

A spokesman for the CQC said action plans had been drawn up to tackle the issues raised in the report.
