Weather forecasters warn of 70mph winds and flash floods

Weather forecasters have issued a warning as 70mph gusts and possible flash floods look set to strike Derbyshire.

The amber ‘be prepared’ alert – the second highest warning from the Met Office – is valid until midnight.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “With winds reaching between 60 and 70mph in Derbyshire, the public is advised to take extra care and be prepared for the risk of disruption to transport and possibly power supplies.

“We’re also concerned about a band of weather which could produce 10 to 20mm of rain in quite a short period of time. This could have quite a big impact and result in flash floods.”
