WEATHER: yellow ice warning continues in East Midlands

The Met Office has forecast a mostly dry day with isolated wintry showers and some ice over Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

A yellow weather warning is still in place today (Thursday, March 3) as wintry showers and clear spells allow ice to form on untreated surfaces. A band of rain, sleet and hill snow is expected to cross central England from Northern Ireland and southwest Scotland by this evening, settling at higher levels.

Expect a chilly startwith some frost and icy patches. Thereafter a mostly dry and bright day is expected, with just the chance of an isolated light wintry shower over the Derbyshire hills, and perhaps further east later. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Then tonight cloud will increase with rain after midnight, falling as snow over the hills with sleet and possibly snow at lower levels later in the night, which may lead to icy stretches. Minimum Temperature 0 °C.
