Wilko recalls kids' dolls linked to cancer

High-street chain Wilko has issued a safety recall of a series of children's dolls after it was revealed they contain unacceptable levels of a potentially harmful chemical.

Tests have found that the Sparkle Girlz Winter Princess Doll sold in Wilko stores contain unexpectedly high levels of phthalates.

As a result they could pose a health risk to children if placed in the mouth.

In recent years some research has linked phthalates to everything from asthma to breast cancer and autism.

The recall applies to all four varieties of the doll, item code 0417591 and anyone who has bought one of the dolls is asked to return it to any Wilko store.

In a statement, the retailer said: “Nothing matters more to us than our customers’ safety - so if you’ve purchased this product from us, please return it to any of our stores for a full refund of the purchase price.

“If you have any questions, please contact your local Wilko store or call the Wilko Customer Care Team free on 08000 329 329.

“We wish to thank you for your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience.”
