WIRKSWORTH: Intruder’s thumb bitten in attempted burglary

An intruder’s thumb was bitten during an attempted burglary in Wirksworth.

The break-in happened at around 11.40pm on Monday, April 1 at a house off the Market Place near the Red Lion pub.

The victim, a 31-year-old woman, heard a noise coming from downstairs and when she went to investigate she found the intruder.

She confronted the man and there was an altercation during which the woman suffered minor injuries.

The victim managed to bite the intruder’s thumb during the confrontation before he ran off. Nothing was stolen.

The intruder is described as white, around 5ft 4in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a black top with the hood up, a black scarf across his face and black trousers.

Anyone with information about the break-in or who knows someone with an unexplained injury to their right thumb is asked to contact police.
