Wirksworth man seriously injured after Winster crash

Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) attended the incident on the B5056 road in Winster on Sunday, as well as police and firefighters.

The accident happened at around 7am near the Miners Standard pub, when a 24–year–old man lost control of a car and it went into a ditch.

On arrival, the emergency services found the man was trapped in the car and had sustained a fractured left leg. DLRAA landed in a field close to the incident at around 7.55am.

The patient was given advanced pain relief and a traction splint was applied to his injured leg. He was then airlifted to Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham.

Police said that while the man’s injuries were not life–threatening, they were potentially life–changing.

DLRAA usually sees a rise in the number of rescue missions that it is called out to in April and May. The service receives no Government funding and relies solely on public donations to keep its helicopter flying.
