Witness took photo of Taddington drink-driver’s car

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Friday, December 5, how David Wright 61, of Main Street, Taddington, was spotted leaving the pub at Litton before police tracked down him down.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “A witness described seeing Wright walking unsteadily in the direction of the car park. He urinated against the vehicle and she took a picture of the vehicle’s registration plate.

“The vehicle reversed slowly and nearly stalled and she called police as the vehicle mounted a verge.”

Police identified the vehicle on Main Street and Wright provided a positive breath test. He pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit and admitted driving without a licence after the incident on November 16.

Bianca Huggins, defending, said Wright had had his licence revoked because of problems with diabetes and he had been lonely when he decided to drive to the pub.

Mrs Huggins also added that Wright suffers with renal failure and has had two knee replacements.

She said: “He accepts he had a couple of pints and had driven home from the pub and this was out of character.

“He had felt lonely and had wanted to see some of the locals at the pub.”

Magistrates fined Wright £288 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £28 victim surcharge. He was disqualified from driving for 18 months.
