Woman jailed for causing death by careless driving

A woman has been jailed after a jury found her guilty of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

Peter Chappell, 65, died on May 23 last year when the motorbike he was riding was hit by Sarah Palmer’s Nissan Micra on Manchester Road in Tideswell.

Mr Chappell, of Kettleshulme in the High Peak, died at the scene.

Palmer, 23, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, was sentenced at Derby Crown Court on Friday, November 4, to 18 months in prison after she was found guilty following a trial.

She was also disqualified from driving for two years.
