Worker seriously injured

Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation to establish what happened after the incident at around 12.40pm, on Thursday, August 15.

Emergency crews were called to at Wheal Farm, off The Jarnett, at Nether Wheal, in Flagg.

A spokesperson for the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance said: “A 60-year-old male had suffered serious injuries to his chest after a grain hopper - which weighed approximately three tonnes - rolled over him.”

The man was initially treated by land crew paramedics before being airlifted to the major trauma centre at University Hospital North Staffordshire an hour after the Air Ambulance landed on scene.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesman said: “We responded to reports of an accident at the farm involving farm machinery.

“The injured 60 year-old man was taken by air ambulance to North Staffordshire hospital with serious chest and head injuries.”

The man who is believed to be from the Flagg area, was initially in a critical condition but police later described his condition as stable.

Police said they are not treating the incident as suspicious and enquiries between the police and HSE are continuing.
