YOUR GROUP: New Derbyshire-based charity aims to improve the lives of disabled residents

Following its initial launch in March of this year Accessible Derbyshire has gone from strength to strength. In that short time, as well as providing start­up funding for it’s recent project ‘Shine’, the charity has established a ‘one­ stop website’ for the best in accessible leisure and tourism in Derbyshire and the Peak District and provided equipment for 7 holiday properties to make them more accessible.

In October the charity will be launching a new initiative aimed at making Derbyshire andthe Peak District the most accessible county and National Park in the country.

‘The Big Push’ will focus on working with leisure and tourism providers in the area to raise awareness of their own accessibility and to fundraise with them to provide whatever is needed to increase that accessibility.

This two­ year project has the backing of Visit Peak Districtand the Peak Park as well as Visit England and Visit Britain to name a few.

Local leisure andtourism providers will be invited to take part in the coming weeks and the charity is looking forindividuals and organisations willing to fundraise to make the ‘Big Push’ a reality.
