Derbyshire Dales District Council has launched a consultation asking residents where to place the homes.

Last month the authority withdrew its Local Plan after a Government inspector said the 4,400 homes which the council claimed needed to be built in the district by 2028 had to be increased by 2,000.

Council leader Councillor Lewis Rose said: “The council doesn’t know everything and there are people out there who have views both for and against and some might have some good suggestions which have not been brought to our attention before. I think we face the same problem as 75 per cent of all other councils with this desire by all the political parties for more housing.”

He added that unlike other authorities however, the Derbyshire Dales has its hands tied by the fact that it is not allowed to build any new homes in the Peak District national park.

Cllr Lewis continued: “If people do put forward sites in the national park we will pass them onto the national park authority because as a council we think there out to be more new homes there, especially affordable homes.”

The consultation deadline is 5pm on Thursday, December 4. To make a suggestion call 01629 761241 or visit www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk
