We are being bombarded with the issue of fracking. Is it right or wrong, good or bad for the people who live in areas where fracking will take place?
On one hand, we are told about what has happened in the USA and all the good things, but this is the UK and what happens there cannot be put against that.
We need energy, as everybody knows, but let’s go back a few years to the 1970s and North Sea gas and oil .
Every household had to have their gas appliances altered to use North Sea gas.
Then it went up and up, until now people have to choose between heating and eating.
We also had the dash for gas-fired power stations using up our supplies to produce electricity and reducing coal-fired stations.
I am aware we have to reduce greenhouses gases, but as a nation we are all responsible, including pollution from our cars. Nobody ever mentions the pollution put in the atmosphere by the increase in flights, which is growing year on year.
Any way, back to the issue in hand, fracking.
The companies doing the drilling are painting a rosy picture of the future, talking of how areas will benefit from the revenue produced from the supply and the possible jobs created.
We are aware of what money can do to an area if allowed to do so, but this is my belief...
If there is a large supply and the money which is talked about, will the residents benefit, or will it come down to whoever is in power where the money goes?
I, like a lot of other people, when it is black and white will believe what is being said. This is also why I have reservations about fracking .
The money seems to be the driving factor.
Will this factor push us to another rush driven by money and not the consideration of the people round the drilling sites? The jury is out.
