Ashford-in-the-Water maintained their challenge for honours as they won by five wickets at Sheffield Collegiate on Saturday.
The home side won the toss and decided to bat on a dry wicket and made a steady start before Pete Marsden (3-18) removed the opening pair in quick succession.
Chris Stewart (68) was Collegiate’s stand-out batsman as he put on 67, together with Ravi Naik (21), for the fifth wicket.
Cameron Higginbottom (2-45) and John Carrington (1-43) provided an all spin attack to keep the overs ticking by but the ever-reliable Kevn Rowney (1-32) was responsible for ensuring that runs were hard to come by.
Despite a bright 17 not out from Mark Hickman, the home side’s total always looked somewhat inadequate on such a placid wicket.
Ashford’s reply once again stuttered to get going as Hickman (2-48) struck with Alex Willis (1-15) to remove both openers with just 15 on the board.
There then followed the first of two match-winning partnerships as Ben Drury (50) and Julian Henson (40) put on 70 for the third wicket. They showed patience as they picked off any loose bowling and it took the wily guile of Dave Seal (2-28) to finally break the partnership.
However, Zac Dann (29*) and Simon Davies (27*) put on an unbeaten 57 for the sixth wicket as they eased to the target with two overs to spare.
Ashford now lie third in the Divisition Two table and will play Weston Park Hospital at home this weekend.
