Bakelock U14s travelled to Lincoln to take part in the annual tri-county rugby sevens tournament and returned as champions.
With the best 20 teams in the region taking part, Bakelock eased through the group stages to reach the semi-finals where they were pitted against hosts Lincoln and ran out 27-10 winners.
In the final and with the wind and rain blowing in their faces, Bakelock conceded two early tries to a very impressive Southwell side but hit back with a superb try from Morley before Southwell responded with another to leave Bakelock with a mountain to climb.
Great forward work from Brough, Butterworth, Lillis and Fitzsimons secured possession for the backs who capitalised brilliantly as first Peachey and then Morley powered over to square the game.
With only seconds to play Orridge had a chance to win the match with a near impossible drop-kick conversion from the edge of the pitch. With a gale force wind to contend with he struck the ball beautifully, sending it between the posts and off the upright for a score and to ensure Bakelock would be crowned NLD Plate champions.
