Big Matlock contingent at Bonsall and Brassington races

Bonsall has hosted its annual Fell Race as part of its Wakes Week celebrations.

A total of 28 of the 62 runners belonged to Matlock AC and first home in the two-lap race was Josh Moody (24.30) with second place going to Karl Webster (25.48), third Chris Hallas (28.30), fourth and first lady Christine Howard, (29.22) followed by Dennis Belbin (30.06), Nick Harrison (32.29), Darran Nuttall (32.59), Mick Kuszynski (33.39), David Davison (34.51), Mark Cunningham (38.24) and Christine Middleton (45.22).

In the adults one-lap race first home for MAC and second overall was Michelle Lester (19.29) followed by Laurie Croft (20.35), and 79-year-old Brian Howitt (25.58).

In the U16s one-lap race, Matlock runners made up the first four places with Ed Hoon winning in 12.57 ahead of John Webster (13.58),Ted Phillips (14.00) and Toby Gill (14.55).

First girl and fifth overall was Michaela Dick (15.10) ahead of Will Needham (15.30), Joshua Nuttall (15.48), Spencer Whittle (16.00), Alex Dick (16.16), Rhys Lessiter (18.00), James Needham (18.46), Lily Phillips (19.05), Matthew Foreman (19.12), Betty Hoon (19.46), William Croft (20.32), Marianna Kuszynski (22.16) and Lara Elliott (26.35).

TheBrassington Fell Race (4.25 miles) took place on July 31 in much cooler conditions after a sharp shower and some thunder and lightening just before the race.

Starting from the Olde Gate Pub, this was a race taking in fields, trails, lanes and a couple of hills, with a barbecue at the pub and plenty of locals and supporters out to give encouragement.

Of the 72 runners there were good turnouts from local clubs including Wirksworth, Ripley, Ilkeston and 11 from MAC.

Luke Beresford of Ripley AC, last year’s winner, was keen to retain his title and he had a great run finishing in 29.38 ahead of team mates Matt Jones and Dean Taylor.

MAC’s Karl Webster put in a fine performance to finish fifth after taking part in four events in four days, while Ed Hoon, first junior and 11th overall, also ran well after undertaking five events in six days.

Christine Howard was first lady and first LV40.

After this race the senior Grand Prix standings see Christine Howard in the lead with 102 points ahead of Colin Davenport (95) and Dennis Belbin (85)

There are two more senior GP races coming up this month, with the Belper Rugby Rover on the 17th and the Bradbourne Fell Race on July 24, which is also the Junior Grand Prix.

The juniors also have the Parwich Panoramic Race on August 5.
