Cast your vote in our sports awards

HERE’S your chance to get involved and cast your vote in the Matlock Mercury Sports Awards 2011.

This area is blessed with an abundance of talented amateur sportsmen, sportswomen and clubs, covering the whole spectrum of sports and games.

These range from wrestling to water polo, from pigeon racing to cycling, from table tennis to martial arts, from bowls to windsurfing, from darts to motorsports, not to mention football, cricket, rugby, hockey, angling and many many more besides.

So the time has come to celebrate the rich sporting tapestry of our thriving area, courtesy of the Matlock Mercury Sports Awards.

This is your opportunity to shine the spotlight of recognition on your chosen individual or team as you can nominate whoever you consider the area’s best sporting star to be, not to mention the most deserving team. But it’s not just about those at the sharp end who compete week in and week out in their chosen field.

The area is also blessed with dedicated coaches, supporters, parents and benefactors who go out of their way to help others and ensure our sporting scene remains so healthy and thriving.

The Sports Awards categories are:

n Best Sporting Male (over the age of 18)

n Best Sporting Female (over the age of 18)

n Team of the Year

n Youth award for those under 18

n Unsung Hero – for those who help make it happen

The winner in each category will be chosen by a panel of judges and receive a splendid trophy while a runner up in each section is presented with a certificate.

These will be handed over at our awards ceremony on June 9 at Matlock Town FC’s brand new social club.

All you have to do is get nominating. You can do this by filling in the nomination form in this week’s Matlock Mercury, posting it to us at here at the Mercury at 4 Firs Parade, Matlock, Derbyshire, DE4 3AS. The closing date for entries is Friday, May 27.

Please note that the Sports Awards are only for amateurs competing in the Mercury area.
