Darley Dale Cricket Club travelled to Brighton for their annual tour last week.
Three fixtures were played, beginning on the Monday against St Peter’s CC in a 20-over fixture.
Darley Dale won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a score of 128-5. Highlights of the innings came from the thunderous batting of Adey Kershaw. In reply, St Peter’s CC could not handle the accuracy, swing and guile of Charlotte Horton who took 5-14. Three dismissals were bowled and one down to a wonderful diving catch from Richard Askew. St Peter’s were bowled out for 89 in 15 overs.
Darley then travelled to Seaford CC for their second match, this time a 40-over affair.
Again, Darley won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a terrific score of 229-5, mainly down to the watchful innings of Dougie ‘Dot Ball’ Briggs (64) and the excellent knock from Watts (90).
In reply, Seaford CC couldn’t handle Darley’s pacy attack and ended their innings on 171-7.
After a day at Hove watching Sussex destroy Yorkshire, Darley then took on Lewes Priory, again electing to bat first. Darley’s openers struggled but the evergreen ex-Darley Dave Kennedy (109) and Morton superstar Richard Hadfield (74) guided Darley to another big total of 226-5. In reply, Lewes Priory lost regular wickets and were finally bowled out for 149.
This domination of Sussex has left Darley Dale CC unbeaten in three consecutive tours, previously to Bournemouth in 2010 and Antwerp in 2009.
