Ashford-in-the-Water hammered Clowne Town by 156 runs.

Ashford won the toss and elected to bat, making steady progress with the opening pair putting on 31 before the fall of the first wicket.

Clowne Town continued to chip away taking regular wickets and at 59-4, Harry Poole came in for Ashford and put on 108 with Joe Muir (33) for the seventh wicket before Muir was out.

With Poole closing in on his maiden century for Ashford, wickets continued to fall. Poole was fast running out of batting partners before he finally reached the century milestone.

He finished on an excellent 101 not out (8 4’s and 6 6’s) as the final Ashford wicket fell with one ball of their 40 overs remaining setting at competitive 219 all out.

The Clowne Town bowling attack stuck to their task with a superb spell of bowling from Harry Wilson who took 6-48.

Wilson was supported by Cameron Shaw (2-54) and Matthew Parker (2-75) who shared the other four wickets.

The Clowne Town reply stumbled from the start and they found themselves on 1-3 as the Ashford bowling attack picked them off one by one.

George Evans (24) was the only batsman to offer any resistance as the Clowne Town innings crumbled to 63 all out in the 26th over.

Ben Rooke (5-24) was the pick of the Ashford bowlers with Ted Rowland (2-12), Joe Muir (1-6) and Doug Howie (1-6) taking the rest of the wickets.

Ashford host Morton Colliery II at Mill Lane in their next match on Saturday.
