Young bowlers Chris Rowan, Steven Hooper and James Scully, aided and abetted by Martin Taylor, Stuart Poll and Peter Kidd stuck to their tasks well.

The Whittington batting side never really cutting loose, and in scoring 160-3 no batsmen scored above 30, nor below 19. Matlock though must look to tidy up the extras column, it proving to be the top scorer, with 34.

In reply, Matlock lost wicket at regular intervals, with Steve Vessey (3-15) being the pick of the home bowlers, but 13 year-old Chris Rowan with 28, and 14 year-old James Scully with 27* saw Matlock to safety, together with Peter Kidd's 14*, both youngsters recording their highest score in senior cricket.

The transferring of talent into senior cricket isn't straightforward, batting a length of time being one thing players can be ill equipped for, but short though the season has been Matlock now have three or four juniors who have learned much, and should appoach 2021 with new skills learned.
