Kent skipper Sam Northeast was holding his side’s first innings together with an unbeaten 86, but Kent otherwise struggled against the pace of Will Davis, who has bagged three for 50 thus far.

Resuming after lunch on 68 for two, Kent lost Joe Denly (24), given out caught behind on the drive against Davis, then Alex Blake (11) bowled after shouldering arms to Tony Palladino.

Darren Stevens (30) helped add 71 for the fifth wicket until he edged off Davis to slip, then Sam Billings (4) chopped on when seemingly trying to withdraw the bat against Palladino.
