Record breaking morning for Leicestershire in Derby
Leicestershire's batsmen enjoyed a record-breaking morning on the second day of the Division Two County Championship match against Derbyshire at Derby.
Skipper Mark Cosgrove made 188 from 222 balls, his best score for Leicestershire who plundered 148 runs before lunch to go in on 563 for 3, the county’s highest ever total against Derbyshire.
Ned Eckersley became the third batsman in the innings to complete a century, only the 13th time it has happened in Leicestershire’s history, and at the interval was unbeaten on a career-best 149.
His stand with Cosgrove was 239 in 38 overs, a county record for the fourth wicket against Derbyshire who already face a tough battle to avoid another heavy defeat.
