Carter, who arrived from Nottinghamshire at the end of the 2015 season, has appeared in 29 career first-class fixtures since making his debut in 2009, claiming 91 wickets.

Now, after spending three months settling in at the 3aaa County Ground, the 27-year-old is aiming for all three forms of the game next season.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m settling in really well.

“I knew a few of the lads before I came and they’ve been welcoming so I’m loving it so far.

“I’d like to play all three competitions (in 2016).

“I’ve always been seen as probably a white ball bowler but I enjoy the red ball form more than the white ball.

“I want to carry on doing well, like I did last year, with the red ball and carry on picking up where I left off with the white ball from a couple of years ago.”

Carter is also looking forward to the club’s pre-season trip to Abu Dhabi and is targeting some morale-boosting wins before the LV= County Championship gets underway in April.

He added: “It will be good to get away with the lads and get a couple of wins under our belt out there and start the season rolling.”
