Darley Dale 2nd XI 129-5 beat Belper Meadows 3rd XI 128-9.
Darley seconds produced a classy display to overpower Belper and claim 22 valuable points which sees them climb the Division 7N table.
Darley won the toss and asked Belper to bat first. Bittles (2-27) opened the bowling and troubled the Belper openers, claiming the wicket of Holland in just his second over.
The Belper top order rallied however with Hudson (20) and Williams (22) adding stability.
It was Darley’s change bowlers who proved match winners though.
The introduction of Taylor (3-34) and Fennah (4-25) changed the course of the game, mixing line and length with pace and aggression. This led to Belper struggling to score runs and consistently losing wickets.
They eventually reached 128-9 off their 46 overs.
In reply, Darley started brightly. Topley (16) batted well but it was the innings of Ben Walton (49) that provided the foundation for victory, mixing sensible defensive play with powerful shot making.
Then returning prodigal sons Rob Smith and Kev Thompson led Darley home. Smith (20 not out) looked as classy as ever and Thompson’s (15) massive hitting had the crowd entertained as Darley cruised home.
