Darley Dale 134-8

Allestree 137-6

Darley Dale welcomed Allestree to their Station Road home on an overcast afternoon for a Division 7N Derbyshire County League match.

Allestree won the toss and elected to bowl first on a green but hard wicket.

Allestree struck early with Topley judged LBW in the fourth over off the bowling of S Woodward (3-26).

With the ball nipping off the seam and swinging wildly runs were hard to come by and wickets began to fall.

Hartley was dismissed by a one handed catch low to the ground and with the introduction of pacey Akhtar (3-38) who took two wickets in two balls, ripping out the heart of Darley’s middle order, it left them in a bleak situation.

However, opener Shaw (35) batted with responsibly as wickets fell around him and some late lusty blows from Allsopp (24) and Banks allowed Darley to reach an under par score of 134 for eight.

In reply, Allestree’s openers batted sensibly and put away the bad ball efficiently and effectively.

Woodward top scored with a defensive knock of 48 and was supported well by the extravagant hitting of Baker (34).

After some wayward bowling Darley fought back well through the bowling of Matt Allsopp who removed Woodward, caught emphatically by Mike Chadwick at backward point.

Hartley then had Allestree’s middle order in tangles taking four wickets and if Darley had only scored an extra 30 runs may well have run through Allestree’s big hitting lower order.

However, Allestree reached their target in the 34th over.

The result leaves Darley in eighth position on 214 points, 68 points above the relegation zone.

Darley now travel to West Hallam in a match they will be desperate to get a positive result from.
