Darley Dale 1sts entertained top of the table West Hallam White Rose in what proved to be a heart stopper of a game in Division 4N on Saturday.
Craig Elliott was unable to win his ninth consecutive toss and the home side were asked to make use of a pitch that almost succumbed to the July weather in the week leading up to the match.
Despite a difficult first ten overs, Elliott and Andy Paulett forged an unbeaten 50 partnership by drinks.
Darley were suddenly on the back foot however, due to the loss of four quick wickets. At 54-4, Paulett was joined by Greg Ward (14), whose resistance along with Matt Heath (eight not out) proved vital.
Paulett brought up his maiden County League half century in the 37th over, falling soon after for 57. His replacement Carson wasn’t prepared to roll over without a fight.
Having struck Jimmy Lockhart for a straight six, he then launched him over the Square and Compass for another gigantic blow the very next ball.
Darley ultimately managed 135 all out off 45 overs, meaning West Hallam had 47 overs to amass their target.
In reply, Tom Lockhart looked set to wrap the run chase up in style, having reached 50 himself and with the away side 100-0, a ten-wicket defeat looked on the cards.
But West Hallam lost seven wickets for 12 runs and Darley were right back in the match.
With two overs to go and West Hallam needing seven to win, Cotterill effected two more wickets to bring up his six-fer, this time through outstanding catching from Elliott and Paulett.
But Lockhart hit the four runs required off the last over.
