Derbyshire left frustrated by the weather

Derbyshire and Worcestershire were frustrated by the weather with no play possible on the opening day of the Division Two match at the 3aaa County Ground, Derby.

Heavy rain during the morning left pools of surface water on the outfield and ruled out any possibility of the match starting before lunch.

Conditions improved briefly but more showers during and after the interval left the umpires with no alternative but to call the game off for the day shortly before 2.30pm.

The forecast is brighter for the rest of the week so the prospects for tomorrow are much better which means Tom Fell could make his first senior appearance of the season for Worcestershire.

Fell has been named in the 12 and has been playing for the second eleven after being given the all-clear following treatment for cancer.
