Dronfield are too good for Winster

Hope Valley League Div B

Winster 1 Dronfield Town B 3

Winster’s glory-hunting of the previous week was put into contrast with a home defeat against a good Dronfield side at the weekend.

With enforced changes once again to their starting line-up, Winster provided a stubborn resistance to numerous Dronfield attacks whilst bedding in their latest formation, Phil Seddon and James Marsden particularly tireless in stifling play from their respective midfield positions.

Although playing on the back foot Winster did find the occasional opportunity in front of goal and despite another man-of-the-match performance from Lee Marsden creating a handful of chances up front it was Dronfield who took the lead after a goalmouth scramble midway through the half.

Winster looked hopeful of snatching something from the game during the second-half but despite some steadfast defending with Stuart Pearson again impressively marshalling the back line alongside an equally solid Joe Redfearn, Dronfield found a quick two goals to put themselves seemingly beyond reach,

Bill Hardy hit a late consolation for Winster with ten minutes left, his impressive free-kick from a tight angle not enough to help the home side find a way back into the game.
