Fine displays from Masters swimmers

Matlock Swimming Club recently took a team to compete in the Ryknald Masters Age Group Championships held at Sharley Park Leisure Centre in Clay Cross.

Male Masters captain Paul Keens came away with two gold medals (100m fly, 50m freestyle) and two silver medal (100m IM, 100m freestyle) and Female Masters captain Cate Read had a morning to remember with three gold medals (100m IM, 100m freestyle, 50m fly) and an afternoon of three silver medals (200m freestyle, 100m fly, 50m freestyle).

Karl Webster took silver in his debut 50m butterfly, Gail Green entered two individual events and took gold in both (50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle).

Kevin Sellors walked away with gold, two silver and a bronze medal (100m IM, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m freestyle) while Gavin Simmons took silver in 100m breaststroke and obtained a number of other personal best times.

Ralph Green took bronze in the 50m breaststroke with a personal best time, and Christine Howard exchanged the hills of Matlock with her running to the swimming pool and did very well with silver medals in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke.

Julia Pritchard also excelled with three silver medals (100m IM, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle).

Paul Keens said: “It was brilliant to see a mix of age groups and experience with some competing in their first competitions and no one let the team down.

“I hope Matlock can build on this for future events.”
