First defeat for Ashford

Ashford-in-the-water suffered their first defeat of the season after electing to bat first on a drying wicket at home to Grindleford.

Ashford were soon in trouble as Paul Carrington fell to a sharp catch. Skipper Jamie Carrington (12) soon followed, but Phil Price (35) and Julian Henson (17) put on 48 before Price was caught.

James Bentley (22) ensured the middle order made their contribution count, but when he was out only John Carrington (10) made a score as the home side lost four wickets for six runs.

Will Gratton (6-22) was the pick of the bowlers as Ashford made 120 all out. Grindleford’s reply made a stuttering start as Kevn Rowney (3-25) kept them tied down. Adam Cornes and Tom Outram stuck at it, but, as batting became easier, Joseph Tiffin (66 not out) saw his side to victory in an unbeaten 62 stand with Ed Buchan.
