A lot of the clubs, including Chesterfield, have now confirmed their retained lists so there are plenty of free options out there.
Here’s 10 for you to decide whether they could be realistic for the Spireits or not...
5. Jon Nolan
A player well-known to Spireites fans and to Paul Cook, who worked with him at Ipswich Town. The central midfielder is 31 and has been let go by by Tranmere Rovers. Speaking about Nolan after he suffered a serious injury in March 2021, Cook said: "I had an idea of the squad before I arrived and he was a player I was really looking forward to working with. I've followed his career closely and seen him progress at clubs. He's the type of player that I really like and hopefully we'll get to work together soon." Photo: Pool
6. Dior Angus
The striker, 29, hit double figures in the National League as Barrow were crowned champions in 2021. He's not set the world alight at his last two clubs - Wrexham and Harrogate Town - but he could be worth a punt. Photo: Jacques Feeney
7. Danny Johnson
The forward, 30, has been released by rivals Mansfield. He was loaned out to Walsall last season where he scored 15 goals in 30 games. Earlier in his career, he bagged 45 in 112 for Gateshead and 22 in 54 for Leyton Orient. Photo: Pete Norton
8. Donovan Wilson
Wilson, 26, scored seven goals in 16 appearances to help Sutton United to the National League title in 2021. The striker only managed four goals last season in League Two, but he could be worth a look, after being released by the Us. Photo: Pete Norton
