Wirksworth Albion U13s 2

Chesterfield Reds U13s 4

THE visitors found themselves with a good early chance when a Chesterfield attacker was one-on-one with Oliver Truswell in the Albion area but was unable to put the ball past Truswell.

The rebound fell again to a Chesterfield forward whose shot was cleared off the line by Jim Morris.

This set the pattern for the first half as the Wirksworth defence of Jack Dunn, James Simmonds, Gabriel Carr and Harry Foster found themselves very much on the back foot.

Brogan Yapp opened the scoring for the visitors. A foul on Joe Bednall resulted in a free-kick that Billy Morley smashed against the bar. Jake Dawes got a second for the visitors as he turned the ball home from a yard out.

The second half saw the introduction of Stuart Dinsdale to bolster the home defence.

Chesterfield had a penalty that was saved by Truswell before Jack King put Chesterfield three to the good.

The long-awaited fightback then started. Thomas Davison, Oliver Marchington, Liam Smith-Vidal and Harry Markwell tightened up in midfield. Cameron Williams played the ball in from the right to Bednall who fed Connor Simms for him to chip the keeper.

Simms then made no mistake as fired past the keeper to make it game on but Yapp killed off the fightback in the final minutes with his second.
