The second week of Matlock and District League fixtures saw Shirland MW suffering as a sickness bug sweeping through the village saw them only able to field ten players at the start of their game against All Inn.
It wasn’t long before All Inn scored their first goal with a beautiful through ball to Rocky White, who calmly put the ball away. Shirland were suddenly on the back foot but managed to regain their composure and claw themselves level a couple of minutes before the break with a goal from Steve Wright.
The second half saw All Inn FC score two more quick goals but a battling Shirland never gave up. Supporters watched on in admiration as Shirland’s attacking enterprise brought a second goal on 77 minutes, Harrison crossing into the danger zone after a good build-up work involving Archibold, who was then bought down just outside the box.
He stepped up for the free kick and curled it into the top right hand corner, the perfect goal.
The game finished at 3-2 to All Inn FC but ended with a challenge from White which saw him receive a straight red.
Elsewhere, Laburnum Saints got back to winning ways with a win against Darley Dale. Steve Prime scored two stunning goals to put Laburnum on their way to a 3-1 win.
Black Hippo ended Matlock Sports’ fine start with a 3-2 victory. Sports were frantic at the start but on 30 minutes Lewis McGuinness scored with a fine finish. Their joy was shortlived as Hippo hit straight back with a goal from James Fruhwald. Hippo started on the front foot after the break and went ahead on 53 minutes from Oli Willson and then through an own goal. Daz Newell scored too.
