Ambergate produced a clinical display to see off Derby Royals Reserves 7-2 in the Midlands Regional Alliance and continued their pursuit of the league leaders.
Gate started brightly and took the lead inside ten minutes when Andrew Stevenson finished after the keeper parried Tipton’s effort.
The lead was soon doubled as Stevenson was at it again. This time he went through on goal and lobbed the keeper effortlessly.
It was a rampant start and the third goal came when Tipton slotted home as Royals failed to clear Randall’s cross. The game seemed over as Gate where cruising but a lack of concentration gave Royals a goal back and a lifeline.
But that hope was soon exstinguished when Bestwick smashed home number four from just inside the box. There was a time for a fifth before half-time, Tipton sidefooting home a 20-yard free kick.
Ambergate started the second half sloppily, maybe thinking the game was won, and Royals took advantage heading home from a corner to reduce the deficit.
Authority was soon restored though as Stevenson grabbed his hat-trick. Bestwick’s effort was saved but Stevenson was on hand to finish the rebound.
Tipton wasn’t to be outdone, he grabbed his hat-trick late on. Randall’s fine delivery headed home for his second hat-trick of the season.
