Darley Dale Dynamoes U8s 2
Leabrooks U8s 1
Darley continued their winning run with a fine victory over a well-drilled Leabrooks side.
Leabrooks started brightly with some neat passing moves and came close to scoring, only to be denied by a brave save from Josh Harrison.
At the other end, Tommy Gill’s fine cross found Ben Crooks but his shot was well saved too.
Leabrooks took the lead midway through the half with a well-worked corner and more dangerous set pieces followed, both requiring some great clearances from Josh Snape and Joe Novelli.
A strong challenge from Tommy Harrison found James Andrews but his shot was blocked. With the half nearly over Dylan Bayes set off on a run from deep in his own half and, after taking on seemingly the entire Leabrooks team, he crossed for Jake Tabbenor to tap home neatly.
The second half saw more dangerous corners from Leabrooks, all superbly dealt with by man of the match Harrison.
It was now end to end stuff, and good tackles from Billy Talbot and Thomas Wiggley helped release Gill, who’s great pass found Crooks but his shot went just past the post. A couple of fine passing moves from Leabrooks created some danger but more great challenges from Snape and Sam Gould and a flying save from Harrison snuffed out the danger.
Darley went back on the attack and two long range efforts from Bayes flashed just passed the post.
Just as it looked like the game would end all-square Gill and Crooks combined down the left and Bayes ran through to nutmeg the on-rushing keeper to spark wild Darley celebrations.
