SATURDAY was a good day for teams at the wrong end of the divisions.

This was particularly the case in the Premier Division with five of the bottom six gaining points.

The team that didn’t was Chellaston, losing 6-2 at home to Belper United.

Bottom team Sandiacre Town thrashed Newmount 7-1 after leading 6-1 at the break but they failed to get off the bottom as Ashover drew 1-1 with Wirksworth Town. Carl Musgave hit the Ashover goal, Wirksworth equalising through a last-minute screamer.

Holbrook St Michaels, also in the lower reaches, drew 2-2 at Rowsley ‘86, who had Andrew Black and Andy Roome on target.

Cromford recorded a 2-1 win at Castle Donington Town thanks to goals from Danny Wildgoose and Steve Prime. Tom Ballard scored the Donington reply.

Melbourne United hammered top-of-the-table visitors Willington 4-1.

Dave Brough (two), Paul Swallow and Matt Brian did the damage for United, Bev Hudson with the Willington reply.

Long Eaton United Reserves went down 2-0 at home to Derby Rolls-Royce Leisure while Holbrook St Michaels Reserves drew 2-2 with Little Eaton. Derbyshire Amateurs beat Bargate Rovers 3-1, Jordan Butcher and Mark Barker both scoring for Holbrook as Mark Hosker, Ashley Bravo and Liam Trowland got the Amateurs’ goals.

Ripley Town gained another point from a 2-2 home draw with second-placed Matlock Sports. At the top of the table, with Mickleover RBL in cup action, Findern against Derby Royals became an important fixture.

Royals won it 4-0 to draw level with Matlock Sports in second place. Richard Holmes scored the Belper United Reserves goal in a 1-1 draw with Pastures while Tommy Smith bagged both the Selston goals in a 2-2 draw with Allestree.

In Division Two, Bargate Rovers Reserves are at the foot of the table as they went down 4-1 to Wirksworth Ivanhoe, Ash Taylor with the Bargate goal. Ambergate stopped the slide of those in the lower reaches as they beat Punjab United Reserves 4-0.

Derby Singh Brothers had the chance to go top but failed to take the chance when Selston Reserves held them to a 2-2 draw.

In Derbyshire Divisional Cup action, besides the Swanwick victory, Allenton United beat Punjab United 5-2 with goals from Adam Birch, Steve O’Connell, Danny Briscoe, Michael Meehan and David Rostrum.

In the county junior cup competition, Wirksworth Town Reserves lost 4-1 to Hopflower and Rowsley ‘86 Reserves also went out 4-1 on penalties in a 3-3 draw after extra time at Nags Head.
