Rowsley 86 were looking to continue their fine start to the MRA Premier Division season against Mickleover RBL on Saturday, and drew 1-1.
Rowsley began the game brightly and had most of the possession in the first ten minutes but chances were restricted to long range efforts from Travis and Porter. After this, Mickleover grew into the game and began to use their target man Daz Rushden, who had their first effort on the Rowsley goal.
The first half played out with Rowsley unable to keep possession and surrendering setpiece after setpiece in which Mickleover consistently threatened.
Into the second half, Rowsley began the game brighter with chances for Travis and Baker but it was Mickleover who took the lead after a corner bounced at the front post, Rushden flicked the ball over Smith’s head to give Mickleover the lead. It was Mickleover who then could have doubled their lead, were it not for the good reactions of Smith saving a point-blank header from another corner.
Rowsley then equalised midway through the second half through Tim Baker, who powerfully struck home a setpiece from 20 yards. It was Baker who then could have given Rowsley the lead but uncharacteristically missed a one-on-one and a long range open goal.
Rowsley thought they had won the game late on through Sam Hoskin’s superb half-volley but his effort was ruled out.
Rowsley’s next fixture sees them travel to Derby Rolls-Royce on Saturday, 3pm kick off.
