Black Hippo carry on their fine start

Black Hippo continued their fine start to the Matlock and District Football League Division Two season after a stunning 5-0 win against Foresters, which now sees them sitting in second place.

The Hippo lads have now scored ten goals in three games but it is the back four that so far takes the credit this season as they are yet to concede a single goal.

Other action in Division Two saw the young lads from Darley Dale Red Star take on Wirksworth Albion, a game that finished with both teams sharing the points after a well-fought 2-2 draw. C.C.S Barley Mow entertained AFC Lea Holloway and although Barley Mow started brightly, they were no match for Holloway who brushed them aside with a easy 4-1 win.

In Division One, Codnor Miners started their game badly, finding themselves one down after only 17 minutes. A few minutes later Codnor’s day got even worse when they went down to ten men for a second week running, Tom Hawkins being shown red.

With five minutes to go, before half-time Codnor looked dead and buried when Shirebook broke through and scored a second, making the score 2-0 at the break.

In the second half, Codnor were the better side with much more of the possession but still couldn’t find the net, hitting the woodwork four times. In the end, Shirebrook’s good defending and the extra man gave Shirebook all three points.

Shirland’s improved display last week continued this week with a 1-1 draw against Riddings Rovers, a game in which Shirland should have won.

The last of the action was between Ashover and Laburnum Saints, Ashover securing their first three points of the season with a 2-1 win.
